Meet Our Patron

Our patron is the distinguished, British actor Geoffrey Bayldon - born 7 January 1924. After playing roles in dramas of Shakespeare, he became famous with the role of Catweazle in the early 1970's; after turning down the opportunity to play both the First and Second Doctors in Doctor Who. Bayldon's other long-running parts include, the Crowman in Worzel Gummidge and Magic Grandad in the BBC television series Watch.

“Pain, no matter how infrequent, can be a monster. I know, because I had it badly; fortunately, only for a short while. But when I visited A.P.R.I.L, I was in wonder at what I saw. People who were, I was told, in constant pain, behaving with enjoyment smiling, chatting, eating and drinking tea together. They were even preparing a ride into the country, the afternoon I visited. If they had pain, I certainly could not see it - they were heart-lifting. When I am in New Milton, I long to be with them again and I am highly honoured to be asked to be their patron.”
