What is APRIL?
Around 1 in 7 of the UK population suffers with chronic pain. When immediate family
members, carers and friends are also taken into account the ratio increases to about
1 in 4 people affected directly or indirectly and yet the treatment of chronic pain
remains one of the most drastically under funded services in the NHS today. The result
can have a devastating long-
Without effective on going support the chances of getting back into work are very remote.
Who is APRIL for?
APRIL is for anyone who lives with pain, not only those who have pain themselves but also their family, carers and friends.
Why is APRIL there?
APRIL provides practical support to help people manage their pain.
What does APRIL provide?
Who will you meet at APRIL?
APRIL is manned by volunteers many of whom are themselves affected by chronic pain and therefore have first hand experience of living with constant pain.
Our volunteers are not qualified to give medical advice but you will find that just being able to talk with someone who truly knows and understands what you are going through can provide that vital step towards managing your pain and leading a more fulfilling life.
You do not need an appointment to visit us but we do advise that if you are travelling from outside our immediate vicinity you phone beforehand to check that the office is open. It may occasionally be necessary to close the office at short notice if one of our volunteers is having a ‘bad day’ with their pain management.
APRIL is a registered charity reliant on volunteers, fundraising and donations for its work. If you can help us financially with donations please make a cheque payable to A.P.R.I.L. and send it to the office. All donations will be gratefully received and acknowledged.
Why visit APRIL?
No appointment is necessary and you are guaranteed a warm welcome.
APRIL is manned entirely by volunteers who themselves have chronic pain. Consequently, the centre may occasionally be closed at short notice. If you are travelling from a distance, it would be advisable to phone before you come to check that the centre is open.
